Prayer

PrayerOne of the core values of the Navigators is Expectant faith and persevering prayer rooted in the promises of God.

We would love to have you pray for the work in Australia.  We send out a Daily Prayer Guide every second month and if you would like to receive that please contact the National Office.  There are resources to help you pray on our resources page.

Your view of God will determine how you pray.  We need to recall that God is the sovereign Lord of the universe, who spoke and things came into being out of nothing.  Who is the alpha and the omega, who is King of kings and Lord of lords, who has defeated Satan, who alone is immortal, who is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, who gave His only Son to bring us back into a right relationship with Him, who knows the number of hairs on your head, who knit you together in your mother’s womb and numbered your days, who loves you and wants to give you good things and who owns the cattle on a thousand hills.  If this is the God you pray to, then your prayer life will be different.

A man who I think had a clearer view of God than most and asked God for big things was the founder of the Navigators, Dawson Trotman.  He said  “Do you know why I often ask Christians “What’s the biggest thing you’ve asked God for this week?”  I remind them that they are going to God, the Father, the Maker of the Universe.  The One who holds the world in His hands.  What did you ask God for?  Did you ask for peanuts, toys, trinkets, or did you ask for continents?  I want to tell you, young people, it’s tragic!  The little itsy-bitsy things we ask of our Almighty God.  Sure nothing is too small – but also nothing is too big.  Let’s learn to ask for our big God some of those big things he talks about in Jeremiah 33:3 “Call unto me and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things that thou knowest not.”

And Daws did just that for 42 days.  He and a friend covered the world in intercessory prayer, praying by name for each nation and asking, “God, allow us to serve You some day in each of these places and enable us to reach men for You in every one of these countries and continents of the world”.  And the world wide movement which is the Navigators is the result.
